Getting there is very easy - either by fast ferry (takes 40-minutes) or by the hourly flight shuttle taking just 10-minutes. Moorea is without doubt a holiday destination and the lifestyle here is a lot more laid back than Tahiti making it the popular choice. Although the beaches on Moorea are better than on Tahiti, they still don't resemble the pictures from the tourist brochures. What Moorea does have though is stunning coastal scenery with razor ridge mountains with dense, inaccessible rainforest. It also boasts the magnificent and much photographed Cooks Bay and the adjacent and even more spectacular Opunohu Bay along which much of the islands accommodation is based. Scuba diving in Cook Bay is good and sailing yachts and cruises often visit. This is also the access point to the lovely Belvedere Lookout with splendid views and some lovely hiking trails into the mountains. The only really nice beach with good snorkelling is at Hauru Point on the north west of the island. Here there is another major concentration of Hotels and Pension Houses.
